Boston Events: Tufts 10K for Women

“Start Strong – Finish Stronger” is the motto of the Tufts Health Plan 10K for women, the world’s largest women’s road race.

This Columbus Day event, through the closed-to-traffic streets of Back Bay and Cambridge, focuses on women’s empowerment and camaraderie.

A diversity of participants, from wheelchairs racers, to women trying to get back into shape, to top runners, are encouraged and supported by each other and by the throngs cheering them on. As of this writing, the course record is still held by Anne Hannam, who ran a time of 31:38 in 1988.

The competition starts at noon in the Boston Common, following a pre-race warm up, with other activities for the runners available during the day.

The course winds through historic Back Bay streets, over the Longfellow Bridge, and then round-trip along Memorial Drive in Cambridge, with views over the Charles River to the Boston skyline, before heading back across the Harvard Bridge to Boston.

Following the race there is an awards ceremony. Monetary awards are presented in a variety of categories and age divisions.
